An airplane crosses a glowing sunset above the city, with orange clouds stretching over the rooftops. A passing plane, the last light, and a moment worth keeping.

Explore the journalBOOKS I RECOMMEND
Ten books I’d like to share with you—on meaning, love, imagination and the ways we live together.

I recommend this book for the question at its heart: what gives life meaning when so much is beyond our control? Frankl brings his experience of the concentration camps to a deeply human exploration of purpose and responsibility.

I’d put this small book in the hands of adults as readily as children. Beneath its simple story are questions about friendship, loneliness and the care we give to the people we love.

I recommend this novel for the way it brings two worlds into conversation: a contemporary woman’s life and the story of Rumi and Shams. It invites us to think about love as something that can change how we see.

This is a book I’d recommend for a conversation about fairness, prejudice and moral courage. Through a child’s eyes, it asks what it means to understand other people—and to stand up for them.

I recommend Orwell’s novel for its unsettling questions about power and the control of language. It asks us to pay attention to who shapes the stories we accept as truth.

I’d recommend this to someone willing to take their time with a demanding book. The pursuit of a whale opens into something much larger: obsession, the natural world and the limits of what we can know.

I want Iranian literature to have a place on this shelf. Set in wartime Shiraz, Savushun brings family life and political pressure into the same room, asking what it costs to protect the people—and principles—we care about.

I recommend this for a thoughtful look at love beyond romance. Fromm treats loving as a practice that asks for care, understanding and responsibility, rather than something we simply wait to happen.

I’d suggest this to anyone curious about dreams, images and the meanings we give them. It offers an introduction to Jungian ideas—a perspective to explore thoughtfully, rather than a fixed answer to every symbol.

I’d keep this within reach for reading a little at a time. These personal reflections return to a practical question: how can we act with care and integrity when the world will not go exactly as we wish?
